Reviewing the Zero Point Energy
A review of recent developments in the study of the Zero Point Energy (ZPE) is made. The origin and behavior of the electromagnetic fields making up the vacuum ZPE is elucidated. From this it is deduced that the ZPE should increase with time even in a static universe such as Narliker and Arp propose. The small oscillations that a static cosmos undergoes will add a variable component to the over...
متن کاملTest of zero-point energy emission from gases flowing through Casimir cavities
A recently issued patent [1] describes a method by which vacuum energy is extracted from gas flowing through a Casimir cavity. According to stochastic electrodynamics, the electronic orbitals in atoms are supported by the ambient zero-point (ZP) field. When the gas atoms are pumped into a Casimir cavity, where long-wavelength ZP field modes are excluded, the electrons spin down into lower energ...

Zero-point fluctuations in quantum fields give rise to observable forces between material bodies, the so-called Casimir forces. In these lectures I present the theory of the Casimir effect, primarily formulated in terms of Green’s functions. There is an intimate relation between the Casimir effect and van der Waals forces. Applications to conductors and dielectric bodies of various shapes will ...
متن کاملFunctional derivation of Casimir energy at non-zero temperature
Performing functional integration of the free Lagrangian, we find the vacuum energy of a field. The functional integration is performed in a way which easily generalizes to systems at nonzero temperature. We use this technique to obtain the Casimir energy density and pressure at arbitrary temperatures.
متن کاملIs the Zero-Point Energy Real?
I consider the arguments to show that the vacuum energy density should receive a large contribution from the zero-point energy. This is the cosmological constant problem, as it was originally framed.
